VenturCom and Ampro Team Up to Support
Embedded and Real-time Windows NT and Windows CE
Microsoft Embedded Windows NT and Windows CE, Tailored for Embedded PCs
San Jose, Calif., November 2, 1998. Ampro Computers Inc., and VenturCom, Inc. today announced a partnership to deliver embedded Windows NT and Windows CE on Ampro's embedded PC products. This partnership together with the anticipated offerings will enable embedded system designers to build applications using their choice of Windows NT or Windows CE operating systems on Ampro's PC/104 and EBX form-factor embedded-PC single board computers.
Windows CE support for Ampro's embedded PCs will be available as drivers tailored to the customers needs. The fast pace of change in Windows CE creates the need for a ‘base plus assistance' approach to the market. Utilizing VenturCom Quick Start, the developer is relieved of the task of configuring and porting the Windows CE operating system to support the platform and can concentrate on developing their application.
Ampro and VenturCom also agreed to ensure that VenturCom's RTX was optimized on Ampro's PC/104 and EBX embedded-PC single board computers. The API to RTX is available on both Windows NT and Windows CE. The real time sub-system is fully available for Windows NT and available to partners for CE support.
Michael Dexter-Smith, VenturCom CEO, said, "Ampro is a key player in the embedded PC market and the combination of the two technologies and services gives the customer the ability to deliver embedded and real-time Windows NT and CE applications, quickly. As the market standardizes on Windows NT and Windows CE, technology delivery like this will give the customer a competitive edge in the market by allowing them to deliver product ahead of their competition."
Rick Lehrbaum, Ampro founder and Executive Vice President of Strategic Development , said, "we have witnessed a phenomenal growth of interest in Windows NT and Windows CE among our embedded application customers." "Customers choose the PC architecture to speed time-to-market, minimize risks, and keep development costs under control, so it's critical that a true plug-and-play solution be available" continued Lehrbaum. "We are therefore excited about the benefits this partnership between two market leaders - Ampro and VenturCom - brings to customers."
