PC/104-Plus Expansion Module Delivers High Speed Video Performance

San Jose, Calif., June 30, 1999. Ampro Computers Inc., originator of the PC/104 and PC/104-Plus standards, has announced the availability of the MiniModule/VFP-III module which delivers ultra high speed, PCI-based CRT and flat panel video performance on a compact, low power PC/104-Plus expansion module. Standard operating temperature is 0 to 70oC, and a - 40 to +85oC "extended temperature" version is also available.

Wide Variety of Display Options

Designed to stack directly with Ampro's family of PC/104-Plus compliant CoreModule CPU products, this powerful and highly versatile module offers multiple video interface options supporting a wide variety of traditional and ruggedized display technologies.

Options include analog CRT, television (NTSC or PAL), and digital flat panel (LCD, EL, Plasma.) An onboard PanelLink transmitter option is also available for interfacing panels in systems requiring extreme noise immunity or remote panel mounting. In addition, a zoomed video (ZV) input port allows a "live video" image from an external frame grabber to be overlayed on a standard VGA graphics screen.

The MiniModule/VFP-III's advanced and highly flexible graphics controller supports a diverse range of digital flat panel manufacturers and technologies. To support variable signal timing and interface requirements, a programmable VGA BIOS is located in an onboard flash EPROM. Ampro supplies pre-programmed flat panel BIOS files for several popular displays. OEMs can develop configuration files for additional displays using an optional flat panel BIOS customization kit.

The MiniModule/VFP-III offers full software compatibility with all popular video standards, assuring easy system integration and support in a broad range of development systems. Resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 and color depths to 24-bit "true color" are supported. In addition, the display controller includes GUI (graphical user interface) acceleration hardware which can dramatically boost the performance of Windows and other graphics-intensive applications.

Use of the popular Chips & Technologies 69000-series graphics controller assures full compatibility and seamless integration with virtually all operating systems, device drivers, utilities, and applications for text and graphic display.
