1st PC/104-Plus single board computer to use Intel's new BGA-packaged Mobile Pentium
March 1, 1999. The new Ampro CoreModule/P5e is the perfect "macrocomponent" for developers wanting to embed Pentium-based embedded-PC technology into their applications. Through Ampro's use of the new Intel BGA-packaged Mobile Pentium Processor with MMX™ Technology ("Tillamook"), the module offers up to 266 MHz performance, while at the same time dissipating minimal heat and supporting extended temperature operation. As the originator of the PC/104-Plus specification, Ampro has ensured that the CoreModule/P5e fully complies with that popular standard (3.6 x 3.8 in.) including its ability to expand using external off-the-shelf modules or custom, application-specific circuitry via either its PCI or ISA bus interfaces.
This new high-end member of Ampro's CoreModule family contains -on a single highly integrated assembly -all the functions of a fully configured PCI-based PC-compatible system. Included are the latest disk controllers, two FIFO-buffered serial ports, an enhanced capabilities parallel port, PS/2 keyboard/mouse interfaces, two USB ports, an IrDA port, and a built-in DiskOnChip2000 solid state disk drive. An efficient DC-to-DC converter supplying the special voltage requirements (3.3 and 1.9 VDC) of the Mobile Pentium processor and core logic is built directly into the CoreModule/P5e, resulting in single-supply (+5 VDC) system operation and minimal power consumption.
Rugged and reliable
Like all members of Ampro's CoreModule family, the new CoreModule/P5e is designed to withstand the rigors of fixed, portable, and mobile embedded application environments. Standard operation temperature range is 0 to 70 oC, and an extended temperature version supports -40 to +85 oC. Operation with or without a fan is supported, subject to specifics of the application packaging. Additionally, the CoreModule/P5e is designed to withstand 50G shock and 12G vibration, under MIL-STD-202F. EMI, EMC, and ESD compliance is in accordance with the European CE mark standards (EN 55022 Class B and IEC 801-2, -3, and -4). Additional reliability enhancements include a watchdog timer and a power-fail NMI generator. An onboard temperature sensor can trigger a slow-down of the CPU clock in the event of extreme high temperature conditions.
Extensive OS support
The CoreModule/P5e is supported by a repertoire of operating systems. In addition to the expected desktop-PC operating systems (DOS, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows CE), support for most leading real-time operating systems is also available.

Availability
