CoreModule™ 800 HALT Results Raise the Bar for Rugged PCI-104
Vibration of 50G over a -60˚C to +90˚C range position this tiny SBC for extreme applications
SAN JOSE, CA, September 5, 2007. -- Ampro Computers, Inc., a leading supplier of standards-based computer systems, single board computers, and computer-on-modules, announced spectacular results for its CoreModule™ 800 single board computer during Highly Accelerated Life Testing (H.A.L.T.). The CoreModule 800 withstood intense multi-axis vibration of 50Grms while operating over a very broad operating temperature range of -60˚C to +90˚C. This compact embedded computer packs powerful 1 GHz Intel® Celeron® M 373 processing into the tiny PCI-104 form factor standard without protruding beyond the required 3.6” x 3.8” board outline. This announcement means that system integrators and equipment manufacturers in avionics, military, industrial and transportation applications now have a solution for their most demanding, rugged requirements.
"Ampro continues to extend its thermal design and manufacturing process capabilities," said Joanne Mumola Williams, president and CEO of Ampro. "Whether operating on a train, a tank, or the tail of an aircraft at 30,000 feet, the CoreModule 800 is a must-have computer for applications where failure is not an option."
At only 90mm x 96mm (3.55” x 3.75”), the RoHS compliant CoreModule 800 is the world’s smallest rugged x86-compatible single board computer. It contains a rich set of PC-compatible subsystems, including DDR 333 SODIMM up to 1 GB, USB ports, serial ports, Gigabit Ethernet, (1) IDE channel, and AMI BIOS with support for optional MiniModule™ ISA PC/104-Plus bridge card for compatibility with the hundreds of off-the-shelf PC/104 and PC/104-Plus modules.
The CoreModule 800 QuickStart Kit includes device drivers and Board Support Packages (BSPs) for Windows® XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, QNX®, VxWorks®, and a full Linux® 2.6 distribution.
About HALT
The purpose of the HALT test is to find the potential weak links in a product design and to determine the true operating and destruct limits. These limits are measured by using repeatable testing techniques such as thermal step stress, rapid thermal transitions, vibration step stress, and combined temperature and vibration environments. By subjecting a product to increasing levels of stress, long term failure modes that would show up under normal operating conditions in months or years can be revealed in just hours or days. Root causes are fed back into the product design, thereby increasing the reliability and the robustness of a design.
Price and Availability
The 1 GHz CoreModule 800 is on the shelf and available immediately. The price is around $1,000 for moderate production volumes. For a copy of the HALT report, please contact Ampro.
